Premenstrual Syndrome 41- Pre Menstrual Syndrome And Chinese Herbs – Liver Blood Stagnation

As we mentioned in previous article, Premenstrual syndrome effects over 70 of women before menopause in the US and less for women in Southeast Asia because of their difference in living style and social structure. The occurrence of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) have more than doubled over the past 50 years due to the acceptance of it as a medical condition that is caused by unhealthy diet with high in saturated food. Premenstrual syndrome is defined as faulty function of the ovaries related to the women’s menstrual cycle, it effects a women’s physical and emotional state, and sometimes interferes with daily activities as a result of hormone fluctuation. The syndrome occurs one to two weeks before menstruation and then declines when the period starts. In this article, we will discuss what exhibits stress to cause PMS.

1. Red pony ( Chi shao )
Red pony is a traditional Chinese medicine used in treating all kind of gynaecological problem. It helps to release the blood stagnation in the abdominal region including blood stagnation in the uterus thereby reducing any abdominal enlargement or swelling resulting in lessening the abdominal pain and cramps for some women with PMS.

2. Red sage root ( dan sen)
Poria cocos is a fungi which has been used in traditional Chinese medicine in improving blood circulation and break up blood stagnation in the body resulting in reducing symptoms of PMS caused by blood stagnation in the abdomen including the uterus .

3. Tree peony root bark
Tree peony root bark is blood and liver tonic medicine by improving the blood circulation to the brain and increase the liver function in fat and protein metabolism it helps to treat emotional and physical stress such as anger, aggression, anxiety etc for women with PMS.

4. Safflower ( hong hua)
Safflower is blood tonic Chinese medicine, it helps to break up blood stagnation in the abdominal region including the uterus resulting in lessening the prementrual pain and cramps.

5. Jujubae date ( da zao)
Jujubae date is a Chinese accient herb, it has been used nutritive tonic and blood detoxified medicine thereby, helping the blood circulation in the abdominal
