Childbirth is one of the most blessed acts of nature. By conceiving a child, a woman is able to bear the most wonderful gift of God to mankind. However, everyone knows that childbirth is not easy. In order to help women induce labor naturally, the Chinese art of maternity acupressure was introduced to medical terminology.

The woman’s body, as a form of energy system, heals itself by use of specific energy centers powered by maternity acupressure. Acupoints, as how these centers are often called, pave the way for a stronger connection between different parts of the woman’s body and eventually prepare her for the process of giving birth.

Maternity acupressure allows women to experience the safest method of childbirth through a normal and secured setting. The approach provided in this medical process provides numerous benefits to women in order to relieve them from normal labor pains. Women who are participating in maternity acupressure systems are not required to consume any type of medication to help make labor contractions more bearable. This natural process imply requires them to relax themselves during the process of childbirth as the cervical area naturally dilates to provide that soothing feeling of giving birth to your newborn child.

As much as possible, doctors recommend the natural process of acupressure for overdue pregnant women so as to induce labor naturally. Once the specific point of pressure is located on the woman’s body, this shall be massaged by the fingers and shall start the process of the acupressure. Studies have proven acupressure to be very effective during pregnancy and that it has in fact, statistically worked for eighty percent of those women who are undergoing the stage of pregnancy.

Labor time of pregnant women is then minimized along with the pain of giving birth to the child, making the natural process more than effective for all the women who have trued acupressure. Should you plan to participate in this natural process of acupressure, you may research online for some of the best resources available in your own. Dramatic results related to acupressure have continued to grow in number on a positive level. Instead of using drugs or heavy doses of medicine, you may now try this unique approach to welcoming your newborn child to our world.

Find Chinese medicine training in the United States and Canada. Today, Chinese medicine training is readily available in America. Students drawn to the healing arts will find that several acupuncture and Oriental medicine schools offer a variety of Chinese medicine training programs.

While a number of these academic courses include practical Chinese medicine training in Qi gong, Tai Chi and Tuina, there are a great many alternative medicine and conventional medicine schools that have been or have begun offering extensive Chinese medicine training in acupuncture and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine).

As both a complementary and alternative healing treatment, Chinese medicine training is critical to potential healers seeking to become certified and/or licensed practitioners of the art. In modern academic institutions, Chinese medicine training curriculums encompass a wide array of health classes, including but not limited to studies in shiatsu, acupressure, acupuncture, Chinese medicine philosophies and theories, herbal medicine, moxibustion (cupping), Asian bodywork therapies, meridian therapy and other related instruction.

In addition to standard curriculum, students participating in one of a number of Chinese medicine training programs will find that some of the more advanced subjects of study (i.e.., Master’s and/or Doctorate programs) will include lessons in Chinese medical terminology (often in Mandarin), pathology, physiology, anatomy, chemistry and pharmacology.

Students, who desire to enroll in degreed courses (such as acupuncture and Oriental medicine degrees) will discover that many Chinese medicine colleges and schools often require standard prerequisites prior to enrollment. Requirements may include formal education and training at a conventional college, university or technical school. It is always wise to carefully examine all academic requirements prior to applying for any number of Chinese medicine training programs; as schools may vary in this aspect, as well as tuition, program lengths, accreditation, etc.

Other Chinese medicine training programs commonly include certificate programs in Chinese herbal medicine, Tai Chi, Tuina and acupressure – to name a few. Students choosing Chinese medicine training in a variety of massage therapies may qualify to sit for the national certification exam to become certified massage therapists (again, this depends on course curriculum and whether school meets state and/or national educational requirements).

If you (or someone you know) are interested in finding appropriate Chinese medicine training to help attain your dream job, let education within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, cosmetology, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started!

As a traditional Chinese medicine technique derived from acupuncture, acupressure applied during pregnancy is literally one of the oldest and safest methods of pain management during labor. The key to maternity acupressure is that it brings on your labor naturally, which can help you avoid an induction. It can also be a great way for fathers to get involved and support the mother during the birthing process! Informational guides are able to teach you the right points for inducing labor which help the cervix dilate and stimulate labor contractions.

How can applying acupressure during pregnancy help induce labor?

Deep probing pressure is needed in order to properly stimulate an acupoint, so you will typically only use the fingertips or the knuckles. Pressure is only applied for short periods of time and sometimes on “opposite” side of the body using the same acupoint. A laboring mom will begin to notice a release of tension and relief of pain, allowing contractions to be stimulated!

What can I expect if my partner knows how to do acupressure during pregnancy?

Birthing mothers need all the support they can get, and that’s exactly what maternity acupressure accomplishes. By its very nature, acupressure is “hands on”, meaning the partner is right there with mom, helping her body work better, and even helping the baby to descend. This helps the partner become directly involved in the labor and delivery.

What else should I know about maternity acupressure?

It is important to know at what point in your pregnancy you should use this technique, as you do not want to induce labor prematurely. Your partner should also be aware as to when to apply acupressure and what specific acupoints to use.

Learning how to do acupressure during pregnancy has many benefits. It can speed up slow early labor by stimulating labor contractions without over stimulating the mother. Fathers and partners can be more involved if acupressure is used as a support tool because it requires active participation of the person stimulating the acupoints.

Holistic healers have brought together the ancient wisdom of both Chinese and Indian medicine by using acupuncture in conjunction with balancing the chakras, which supports physical, emotional and spiritual health. A variation on this is to balance your chakras using acupressure and essential oils.

Acupressure, as the name suggests, substitutes applying pressure to the key points of the body instead of using needles, as in the classic practice of traditional acupuncture.

A number of studies indicate some very beneficial uses of acupressure.

One study suggested that treatment with the Tapas Acupressure Technique, for example, can help people recover and maintain their health and functioning. Acupressure may help with nausea, while another study found that it may be more effective than the most famous massage therapy of all, Swedish massage. Using fragrant essential oils brings in the power of aromatherapy in order to complement the traditional Chinese and Indian holistic remedies.

The concepts underlying the use of acupressure to rebalance the seven principal chakras are almost the same as in acupuncture. The difference is that touch takes the place of the insertion of acupuncture needles at the relevant “acupoints.” These points are broadly equivalent to the seven chakras described in the Indian healing philosophy.

In aromatherapy, different fragrances are associated with different qualities and resonances, or vibrations of energy. They can be used on any part of the body or released into the air, where they counteract the pheromones that people give off, especially in stressful situations.

The idea behind using aromatherapy in tandem with acupressure is that effectiveness is mutually enhanced by matching the powers and properties of particular oils to the different potency centers that are represented by the seven chakras. These are located along the midline of the body, corresponding with points along the spine, from the head to the groin. The word chakra means ‘wheel’ but in Hinduism and Buddhism the chakras are also envisaged as flowers that can be opened like a blossom – in this case, through the use of fragrant oils.

Different practitioners may recommend different oils, or different blends of oils, for use on the different chakras. For example, the third chakra is associated with the digestive tract. Therefore holistic healers will select an essential oil that is believed to act upon the digestive system, such as peppermint oil. Using oils and acupressure together is a way of ‘doubling up’ on the effectiveness of the therapy.

Acupressure with essential oils can rebalance your chakras, releasing the flow of yin and yang by working together to integrate mind, body and soul.

It is dark and downright cold this morning! The ride starts at 5:00 a.m. and it is 3:30 a.m. Too cold to sleep and Samson, my 8-year-old gelding, is probably just as cold and stiff as I am. I can hear him moving around in his pen just trying to keep his blood circulating. I’d better get up and do something to help him warm-up and prepare for the many miles ahead….

Endurance and pleasure trail riders know how important it is to have their horses feel energized and warm before heading out for a cold, early morning ride. Cold, stiff muscles, tendons, and joints can cause injuries and certainly will affect the animal’s ability to perform at his best. Many riders are offering their horses’ Acupressure Sessions as part of their conditioning routine to maintain their animal’s health and fitness.

Acupressure is an ancient healing art. This noninvasive, deceptively gentle complementary modality can profoundly impact your horse’s balance of energy, health, and general attitude. For trail riders, acupressure is particularly powerful because it is safe, drug-free, and always available.

Our friend Sara was riding in the high planes of the Colorado Rocky Mountains last summer with a group of her horse-buddies. Two days into the four-day ride, she noticed that her 16-year-old mare, Gracie, was having difficulty breathing and showing signs of distress. She was not sure if it was the altitude or over exertion, but she knew she had to do something quickly. They were at least 25 miles from any hope of finding a veterinarian.

Luckily, Sara had studied acupressure and had her acupressure text with her. She searched through the book and found specific acupressure points to use for respiratory issues and anxiety and was able perform a session that address the problems Gracie was exhibiting. By the next morning, Gracie was bright-eyed and ready to hit the trail.

Acupressure has been used to treat animals for 1000’s of years. It is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and since the Chinese valued their horses and live stock so highly they used acupressure to keep them healthy and strong. Acupressure has proven to:

Relieve muscle spasms

Build the immune system

Release natural cortisones to reduce swelling

Release endorphins necessary to reduce pain

Enhance mental clarity required for focus in training and performance

Resolve injuries more readily by removing toxins and increasing blood supply.

As Bobbi Richine, long-time endurance rider and owner of Rocky Mountain Training Center in Colorado, USA, points out, “Endurance riding has its challenges. You have to be committed to considerable conditioning and consistent acupressure sessions can greatly affect your horse’s soundness and the outcome of a ride!”

Acupressure Session

Offering your horse an acupressure session along with fitness conditioning program will help to enhance the flow of Chi, life-force energy (pronounced “Chee,” also seen as “Qi”), and blood. By performing an acupressure session you are actually giving your horse the advantage of:

Balancing the flow of energy throughout his body

Boosting his immune system

Reducing the potential for fatigue

Increasing fluid in his joints to enhance flexibility

Reducing any minor soreness or pain

Sending more blood and nutrients to his four limbs, and

Supporting his body’s ability to regulate his temperature in relation to the external temperature.

Additionally, when you take a break from the trail or at the vet checks on an endurance ride, use the acupressure points shown in the chart, “Fitness Warm-up,” to give your horse that extra edge. Your horse will enjoy the ride and you will be more assured of hearing those glorious words from the vet – “Fit to continue!”

A GUIDE TO AN ACUPRESSURE SESSION

Start by finding a location where you and your horse feel safe and where there are few distractions. Slowly, take three even breaths. Think about how you want to help your horse feel better; taking a moment to formulate the intent of your treatment is very important. Begin by resting one hand near your horse’s shoulder. Place the heel of your other hand just off the mid-line of your horse’s neck at the poll and gently stroke down his neck. Continue stroking down the horse’s back to the hindquarters staying to the side of the midline. To finish, stroke down the outside of his leg to the coronet band. Your opposite hand can trail along the same path touching the horse lightly. Repeat this stroking procedure three times on each side of your horse.

Now you are ready for Point Work. Rest one hand on your horse wherever it feels comfortable. You are going to perform the actual Point Work with the other hand. Use either the thumb or two-finger technique depending on what is most comfortable for you.

Thumb technique: Place the tip of your thumb directly on the acupressure point, also called “acupoint,” and hold the point gently, but with intent, while counting to 30 slowly.

Two-finger technique: Put your middle finger on top of your index finger and then place your index finger gently, but with intentional firmness, directly on the acupressure point while counting to 30 slowly.

Follow the “Fitness Warm-up” chart during the Point Work segment of your treatment. Watch your horse’s reaction to the point work. Healthy energy releases are: yawning, deep breathing, stretching, muscle twitches, release of air, and softening of the eye. If your horse is overly reactive to a particular point or exhibits a pain reaction stop holding that point and move on to the next. Try that point again at a later session to see if he is more comfortable.

To complete your treatment session, rest your hand comfortably on the horse’s shoulder. Place the heel of your other hand just off his poll and stoke down his neck, continue stroking over his back to his hindquarters, keeping your hand to the side of his spine and down the outside of his leg in exactly the same way you did to start the session. Your opposite hand can lightly trail along the same path the working hand. Repeat this procedure three times on each side of your horse. It can take 24-hours for the effects of an acupressure treatment to be experienced.

As we mentioned in previous articles, endometriosis growing somewhere else other than the endometrium also reacts to hormonal signals of the monthly menstrual cycle by building up tissue, breaking it, and eliminating it through the menstrual period. As we know, acupressure plays a very important role in some cultures in treating all kinds of diseases. In this article, we will discuss how acupressure helps to treat endometriosis.

I. Definition

Since acupuncture involves using fine needles to treat endometriosis, acupressure is a system of applying pressure to the meridian points with the fingers.

II. How it works

Since Chinese practitioners believe that endometrial menstrual cramps are caused by qi and blood stagnation in related meridian points in the abdomen, hands and legs, by applying pressure to these points will help to restore the balance of qi as well as releasing the blood flow at the abdominal regions so the body can heal itself.

In fact, before acupressure can start there are several questions which you may be asked in details such as your family history living style, and how long symptoms have persisted. All these question are to ensure that the correct meridian point and herbs which will be used form a foundation in your treatment. Each section may require about 30 -45 minutes, you may feel some pressure when the acupressure technique is applied to your body, otherwise it is pain free.

Acupressure most of the time is used to treat symptoms of endometrial cramps due to blood stasis, qi stagnation, and phlegm and dampness. You may be given some herbs or Chinese herb tablets with you.

The treatment of endometrial cramps using acupressure technique may require at least 3 months to assure a good result. Please make sure you talk to your acupressure practitioner about the length of treatment. If this type of treatment is not covered under your insurance or Provincial health care plan, it may be costly.

If you have never heard of acupressure before, it is an ancient Chinese medicine that uses the fingers to work on the key areas of the body that promote healing. It is said that when you practice acupressure, you will be able to relieve tension in the muscles as well as promote the healthy circulation of the blood. The pressure areas are the same in acupressure as they are in acupuncture, but acupuncture uses needles instead of pressure.

The alternative medicine has been used to relieve pain, keep the body in good balance as well as overall good health. An all over relaxation of the body is a good way to promote good health according to practitioners of acupressure. When you relieve the stress in the body, there can be a great improvement in your health. Stress can cause a great many problems in your health and will cause you to have trouble fighting off illness and health problems.

It is possible for an individual to use self acupressure to experience all of the health benefits that this type of therapy can bring to you. The first thing that you should do is find a chart that will show you all of the pressure points that you can use to achieve benefits. The chart will show you the pressure points and how they correspond to a particular area of your health. Acupressure charts are available online for you to use in your health therapy.

Acupressure has been used to treat colds and flu as well as boost the immune system. When your body is feeling run down, you are more likely to catch a virus that will lead to a cold. Acupressure can work to boost your immune system so that you are less likely to catch a cold. Even when you catch a cold, there is an acupressure method that can help your body fight off the virus and eliminate it from your body. It is important to note that acupressure does not cure a cold, it simply helps the body to fight off the cold and eliminate it more quickly.

Today, there are many reasons why the body will become rundown and more susceptible to illness. We are all working too many hours and not taking proper care of our health. With acupressure, some of the trouble that we give to our immune system with our unhealthy lifestyle can be relieved. Of course, you should make sure that you are taking care of your health most of the time. However, when the stress builds up and you find yourself working too hard, not getting a proper amount of rest and eating an unhealthy diet for a short period of time, make sure that you boost your immune system with some acupressure methods.

Acupressure is a form of massage therapy. It originated in China many years ago and is also used in Japan where it is called shiatsu. It was once used in Great Britain to treat headaches prior to the discovery of aspirin.

The theory of acupressure is based on the Chinese belief that all living things contain a vital energy, which is known as chi. Within the body are invisible paths called meridians that connect all the parts of our body. The chi flows along these paths. There are various points located on the paths, which can be stimulated to relieve pain. The points are named such as Large Intestine 4, Liver 3, and Stomach 36.

For example, Large Intestine 4 is a point located in the web of skin between the thumb and first finger. You can effect headache pain relief by applying pressure to and massaging this point in the direction of the index finger. But if the headache were a migraine, then you would apply the pressure to Colon 4 and Liver 3.

Liver 3 is located between the big toe and second toe in the back of the webbing. Massaging this point will also help relieve stress.

Unlike other massage therapies, acupressure uses no oils or equipment so it is simple to do. There are trained acupuncturists who administer acupressure but you can also learn to do it yourself. However, self-administered acupressure may not be as enjoyable as having someone else do it.

To perform acupressure, you use your thumb, finger or knuckle to apply pressure to a point. The pressure applied should be firm but not painful. The point should be massaged from five to fifteen minutes until the pain subsides. But be careful not to over-stimulate the point, as this will make the pain worse.

The challenge in self-administered acupressure is the correct location of the points. There are many books that have charts of the meridians and points together with complete directions. There are also charts available at various sites on the net.

However, these points are only .5mm in diameter so there isn’t much of a margin for error. If you are not feeling any benefit after applying the technique it is probably because you haven’t properly located the point. Therefore, you might want to schedule one or two visits to an acupuncturist to have them teach you the technique.

Acupressure has no significant side effects. The points may feel a little sore after a session and some people may experience a temporary feeling of lightheadedness.

Women who are pregnant should not use acupressure without the approval of their doctor. And even with a doctor’s approval, they should not self-administer but need to consult a trained acupuncturist. Some of the points are dangerous for pregnant women.

Acupressure should not be applied over any area that is bruised or swollen. It also shouldn’t be done over varicose veins.

People who have circulatory problems, osteoporosis, any type of bleeding disorder, a recent fracture or who are using blood thinning medication should only have acupressure administered by a qualified therapist.

Acupressure has been found to be helpful in treating nausea, motion sickness, headaches, muscle tension and stress.

Acupressure is a technique that originated from China. It is sometimes confused with acupuncture. Acupuncture uses needles to stimulate acupoints. Whereas, acupressure uses movements and pressure to stimulate the pressure points. Acupressure is a combination of applying pressure to points and specific movements to help relieve discomfort and pain.

Acupressure is normally performed by using the hands, thumbs, elbows or mechanized equipment. These instruments are used to target the body’s acupoints. It is not that when this pressure is applied to the acupoints, that it will unleash the body’s natural pain relievers.

The body has natural painkillers called endorphins. Certain situations or stimulation can release these endorphins into the body. They help to kill the pain so the body can continue to function effectively. Many times athletes play injured because the endorphins are killing the pain during times of intensity.

Acupressure is noted to relieve discomfort when pressure is applied to specific areas. The discomfort is thought to be relieved due to increased blood circulation to the muscle. This also helps to relax the muscle and joints helping them retain flexibility.

This technique is also known to balance the body. Many times we retain stiffness in the body to stress. Stress causes tension leading to muscle fatigue and stiffness. Acupressure helps to relieve the immediate area and to help induce full body relaxation.

Acupressure is based on traditional Chinese medicine principles. According to these principles, energy current travels inside the body along invisible pathways. These pathways art known as the radiance and are thought to 14 pathways. These pathways interconnect our organs with other body parts.

The body is believed to get out of balance which causes blockages and energy. It is believed that the blockage of these greedy and pathways is what causes the ailments. Acupressure seeks to unblock the energy flow in the body.

Generally, acupressure is used directly on or around an area of discomfort or pain. The massage probes deeply into the muscle tissue. By working through the muscle tissue, it helps to restore elasticity. Muscles tend to get very stiff and hard.

Acupressure massage targets stiff areas in the body. It helps to penetrate into stiff muscle and joints. This helps to restore flexibility in the muscle. The muscles have a stiffness which needs to be overcome. Sometimes the initial penetration into the muscle can cause discomfort.

Realize that when your muscles are stiff, it will take some on doing to restore their flexibility. There is an initial threshold to cross where discomfort and pain is stemming from overcoming the stiffness. However, once you regain some flexibility, then the pain. And the muscle and joint will feel well again.

Acupressure is by no means a substitute for medical care. Although overcoming initial muscle stiffness can cause discomfort, he acupressure massage should never cause pain. Always seek your physician’s advice before pursuing any type of alternative treatment.

You can receive an acupressure massage from a therapist or a massage chair. A therapist uses the specialize techniques and requires about an hour for the treatment. A massage chair also uses specialized techniques but can perform a full body massage in 15 to 20 minutes.

Acupressure is a treatment used to help balance the body, relieve symptoms of pain and promote overall good health. A reduction of tension in the body helps it to concentrate on being healthy and more immune to disease and sickness. When you are under stress, your body can be attacked much more easily. Re-balance your body and restore harmony with an acupressure massage treatment.

Acupressure helps to stimulate and relax the muscles throughout the body for a relieving and relaxing treatment. Acupressure Massage is an ancient form of healing to unblock energy in the body.
There are over 350 acupoints on the meridians of the body. Selected points are stimulated by inserting fine acupuncture needles in order to improve the flow of chi or qi in the meridians and to restore balance and healthy functioning to the internal organs of the body.

Treatment points are selected on the basis of pulse and tongue diagnosis, examination, and questioning and categorized according to their effects on specific body systems and organs. The insertion of the needles is quick and virtually painless and often a comfortable and relaxed feeling follows.

Nobody knows exactly how acupuncture works but a growing body of research has shown acupuncture to be effective for a wide range of ailments including pain and joint problems, specific organ imbalances, mental and emotional problems, and childhood illnesses.

Increasing numbers of Western medically trained doctors and nurses are now studying and practicing acupuncture, while more people every year embark on full-time training in acupuncture as a career.

Acupuncture is economical and effective for both treating and preventing disease and has an important role to play in Western healthcare.

Acupressure

Acupressure involves the application of fingertip or nail pressure to acupuncture points on the body in order to remove blockages or pain and enhance the flow of chi. In Chinese medicine acupressure may be used in its own right or incorporated into an acupuncture treatment.

Typically the middle or index fingers or the thumbs are used, but sometimes, as in shiatsu, the knuckles, elbows, or knees may be used to apply firmer pressure to large areas of the body.

Acupressure is particularly suitable for those who are anxious about acupuncture needles. It can also be easily learned and safely applied as a self-help technique. However, since its application is less direct and specific than an acupuncture needle, the results are likewise often slower and less specific.
